For example, if you want to disabled the STM32 RTC and use an external RTC you cannot because the external RTC also depends on the global CONFIG_RTC. The solution is to add a new CONFIG_STM32xx_RTC configuration option the permits to you select or deselect the STM32 RTC but still be able to selecte the external RTC.
